bio
New York-based artist Michéla Domachowske (she/her) has been a drawer and painter her entire life. She took on photography, print-making, and sculpture in high school (2016-2020) and college (2020-present). Gradually, her variety of skills were honed, and she developed the biggest love for photography, after joining yearbook class in high school.
In college, she grew the largest passion for print-making, drawing, and photography. Her ambitious combinations of the aforementioned media illustrate ideas of mental health struggles, as well as loss and memory—raising questions surrounding identity and the self.
Michéla believes she is a mosaic—shaped by every person encountered and every experience lived. This serves not just as a metaphor but as a guiding philosophy. Through her work, she navigates the intricacies of self-creation, seeking to understand how the layers that define her as an individual are intertwined. Each piece is a conscious act of self-reflection through a larger lens; a mirror held up to analyze and comprehend not only her own human existence but also how it is connected with others and the world around her. It is not simply self-reflection as she is also reflecting on others around her.
"People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself. But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates."–Thomas Szasz
